Singer and songwriter Zilla has a way with telling grand stories with her music. On her new single “Whisper Whisper”, the classically trained pianist seems to effortlessly transform a serious topic about childhood trauma into a fairly upbeat and happy sounding song complete with a very catchy hook and angelic dubs of her serene voice.
“Whisper Whisper” is the first single release off of her highly anticipated upcoming debut album Zilla With Her Eyes Shut with record label Accidental Records.
Zilla is not one to be boxed in and this particular single is testament of that. The Matthew Herbert produced song samples everyday objects to develop the sound, including the sound effects of light bulbs, hair pins and book pages turning as the result of wind blowing. Unique attributes for a very eccentric artist that used trauma from her past to develop the concept of “Whisper Whisper”.
“This story comes from the childhood trauma I went through, I started hearing whispers in my head when I was about 10, right about the time I started playing piano,” said Zilla. “It is a joyful track because the imaginary friend made me feel like I wasn’t alone and instead of acting out the violence, at least it only happened in my head as a big explosion of sounds, words and colours.”
Every bit uncommon and imaginative, the Paris born singer finds inspiration in experimental electronica, classical piano and hip hop.
The pop surrealist artist is far from average as she burns a vividly visual path for listeners giving insight to the wonderful and mystical mind of Zilla.
