Black-ish actress Yara Shahidi has been casted in the upcoming Disney film Peter Pan and Wendy. She will play the role of Tinker Bell, the sassy fairy who became famous for being Peter Pan’s closest buddy.
Other cast members include Jude Law (Captain Marvel) as Captain Hook, Alexander Molony (The Reluctant Landlord) as Peter Pan, and Ever Anderson (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter) as Wendy.
One of many adaptations of the original Peter Pan play penned by J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan and Wendy will be directed by David Lowery, who also contributed to the writing of the screenplay with Toby Halbrooks.
The classic tale of Peter Pan follows a young boy who begins a magical adventure to Neverland island with three siblings in order to avoid growing up.
Disney has been on a mission to diversify its IP by casting people of color in lead roles. In recent years, the studio has accomplished this in its animated and live action catalog.
Peter Pan and Wendy is expected to be released in movie theaters.
