Wendy Williams is spilling the tea on the aftermath of her storied television career in a two-night documentary from Lifetime called Where Is Wendy Williams? The Purple Chair Queen, who is credited with igniting a culture of YouTubers covering celebrity news, breaks down in the emotionally gripping trailer.
“I have no money,” Williams says in the trailer. “I’m going to tell you something, if it happens to me, it can happen to you.”
In the new documentary, Williams reveals she’s been isolated from her family as she’s been placed under a court-ordered guardianship. She hasn’t been able to access her money as a result of the guardianship.
The sad revelation comes nearly 14 years after The Wendy Williams Show first premiered on Fox in July 2008. The former radio host partnered with her husband at the time, Kevin Hunter, and later, Debmar-Mercury.

The syndicated show had 13 seasons before its curtain call following Williams’ declining health, resulting from Graves Disease and hyperthyroidism, and a family scandal that rocked Williams’ personal life. Paparazzi exposed an affair Hunter was having with longtime mistress Sharina Hudson, someone Hunter met through Williams’ protégé Charlamagne tha god. News of Hudson’s pregnancy with Hunter went viral causing a heavily scrutinized Williams to make a difficult decision about her marriage.
Needless to say, Williams took the life change hard and began to struggle with substance abuse, which she attempted to deal with by entering a rehab facility. Meanwhile, episodes of The Wendy Williams Show would feature a revolving chair of guest hosts, including recording artist Fat Joe, media personality Nick Cannon, and comedian Sherri Shepard. The final episode aired June 17, 2022.
The slow-burn demise of The Wendy Williams Show marked the end of an era much to the delight of the celebrities Williams talked about on her show, but to the sorrow of her fans worldwide.
Daytime talk television rushed to fill the void left by Williams, ushering in shows hosted by Nick Cannon, Sherri Sheppard, Jennifer Hudson, and Kelly Clarkson, to name a few. A number of fans expressed most of the shows were too politically correct and favorably-biased towards celebrities to deliver the same edge as The Wendy Williams Show.
Aside from the biopic Wendy Williams: The Movie and documentary Wendy Williams: What A Mess!, both premiering on Lifetime in 2020, the only glimpses of Williams revolve around paparazzi footage as the star made her way from cars to her places of residence.
Where Is Wendy Williams? premieres February 24 at 8pm EST on Lifetime.
