Issa Rae and HBO Max presents the refreshingly innovative original series Rap Sh!t, chronicling the life and times of two aspiring female rappers, Shawna and Mia, coming up in the glossy setting of Miami. When a video of the pair of estranged friends freestyling goes viral, the two set on a journey to establish themselves in the treacherous music industry while balancing family life and “real jobs.” Meanwhile, the battle between righteousness and ratchetness causes contention between the ladies.
Rap Sh!t stars Aida Osman as Shawna, KaMillion as Mia, along with Jonica Booth, and RJ Cyler. For fans of the podcast The Read, co-host and personality Kid Fury makes an appearance on the South Florida series.
The television series is another effort churned out by the Quality Control Films unit in collaboration with Rae’s Hoorae Productions. Coach K, P, and the City Girls, JT and Yung Miami, are executive producers. The first season, consisting of eight episodes, is set to debut on July 21.
Issa Rae is fresh off the success of producing and acting in her groundbreaking sisterhood series Insecure and A Black Lady Sketch Show. In addition to Rap Sh!t, she’s also in the early phases of producing Project Greenlight Revival, first introduced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in 2001, and two-part television miniseries Seen & Heard.
