Employees who are overworked often experience signs of burnout. This stress-related reaction can manifest into mental and physical symptoms, eventually affecting the work environment and quality of life. Exhaustion, lower productivity, and anti-social behavior may result from overworking, according to the National Library of Medicine.
The Harvard Business Review recommends workers avoid burnout by prioritizing their health with a consistent sleep schedule, exercise, and wholesome nutrition, along with incorporating therapeutic practices such as journaling, meditating, and taking self-care vacations centered in nature, if possible.
