Elon Musk shook the room when he announced that he will be hosting his first Clubhouse room on Sunday night. The Tesla and SpaceX inventor posted the announcement on his Twitter account, along with a meeting reminder from the drop-in audio platform.
“On Clubhouse tonight at 10pm LA time,” Musk said.
The room sponsored by the group Good Time — described as a daily light-hearted wrap up of what’s happening in tech and culture — will feature Good Time moderators: product leader and investor Sriram Krishnan, tech investor Marc Andreessen, developer Steven Sinofsky, founder and CEO of Lumoid Aarthi Ramamurthy and co-founder of Initialized Capital Garry Tan.
In order to sit in on the conversation with Elon Musk, CH users will need to follow the group Good Time, follow Elon Musk and click the notification bell. Or, listen in on someone else’s cellphone.
A CH account is required and since it’s invite only, a friend who has access may need to extend that invite. However, users can jumpstart the process by downloading the app on iOS devices, creating an account and waiting for approval.
When the news broke on social media, CH patrons all gathered with excitement in the room titled “Elon Musk is speaking on Clubhouse tonight at 10 PST.” At one point, the room filled to nearly 5,000 users. Speakers raised questions on what they would like Musk to answer, such as the ongoing conspiracy question on whether he’s an alien or time traveler or the big rocket science question on what can people do to make the world better.
The app’s number of users increased significantly with active users surpassing three million after Musk’s announcement. Users also revealed that they received more requests for invites than usual. It’s with good reason because the special event will be capped at 5,000 people. Anyone who wants to enter the room after that will be out of luck, according to Clubhouse.
