Tyler Perry has hired Dr. Michael Baden to investigate the alleged, apparent suicide of his nephew Gavin Porter, who was found dead in his jail cell at the Union Parish Detention Center at Famerville, Louisiana on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
Perry’s nephew was serving time for a manslaughter charge after shooting his 54-year-old father, Gary Wayne Porter.
He was found hung with a bedsheet. The Union Parish Sheriff’s Office does not suspect any foul play.
Perry hired Baden, a top-notch forensic pathologist, after he was informed that his nephew was involved in a fight and placed in solitary confinement.
Baden has worked on high-profile death cases, such as that pertaining to Jeffrey Epstein, Aaron Hernandez, and John F. Kennedy.
“Call me naive, but it was my hope that after serving his time, and really reflecting and showing much remorse and asking God for forgiveness, that he would have been able to come to work for me, joining all the other former inmates who work for me and turn his life around just as they have,” Perry told TMZ. “But that day will never come.”
Porter, who was the son of Perry’s sister, was 26 years old.
