Well, we’re waiting. Who put on more artists, Kanye or Drake? It’s a simple question and people want to know. So, when Sam with the Twitter handle @nopcxvi posted the question, the Twitter fingertips got busy typing their two cents.
Macalin (@shushmaster) said that Kanye put on Chief Keef, Big Sean, Tyler the Creator, and Kid Cudi. Others added to Kanye’s list, including John Legend and 070 Shake.
An apparent fan of Drake believes the Canadian artist only introduced the world to PND. “I mean Drake got PND,” OVO John said. “That’s about it.”
Aspy adds, “Roy Woods.”
Le Bebe, a longtime fan, has a longer list for the Take Care rapper. “Drake gave ASAP Rocky, Migos, Lil Baby, The Weeknd, BlocboyJB their first mainstream exposure. He may have not signed them or put them under his wing but by giving them a hit he kind of put them on.”
Travis Scott’s career seem to be a hot button topic with some saying Kanye put him on, but Drake helped make his biggest single in “Sicko Mode.” Meanwhile, hip hop heads entered the conversation to correct the younger demo by letting them know that Atlanta rapper T.I. actually put Travis Scott on.
It’s a pretty heated discussion about the “L” word – Legacy. It’s great when great artists have the capability and bandwidth to support other artists and blaze a trail for new millionaires. They’re not necessarily obligated to share the spotlight, but it’s heavily criticized as can be seen with the perception, although perhaps false, of artists such as, Nicki Minaj, who gained a reputation for not being supportive enough of her female rapper peers, and Diddy, who has led the horses to water but didn’t make sure water was in the trough.
So, what’s your opinion? Who put on more artists, Kanye or Drake, and does it even matter?
