Trippie Redd didn’t hold any bars when he released the very telling music video for the Pierre Bourne produced “The Grinch”. Trippie’s single comes from his latest project A Love Letter To You 4.
The music video is in the form of stop motion animation or what is deemed as claymation, similar to the old school claymation Christmas TV specials that used to come on annually.
In the short music film, Trippie plays the Grinch, who is prompted to kill all snitches. While in prison, he receives a box with an “X” on it. Photos of snitches and a newspaper article saying “Informants key in mob boss arrest” sit in the box.
The Grinch proceeds to mutilate and kill a list of snitches, including one with his tongue hanging out and another in a telephone booth on the phone. But, one telling part of the entire video is when an inmate dawning an orange jumpsuit with the numbers “9669” is seen spilling all the secrets to the feds.
The unnamed individual, who some are speculating is imprisoned rapper Tekashi69, receives rewards for snitching, including a cigarette and fast food.
The inmate gets an early release from prison. Unbeknownst to the “9669” inmate, he’s marked for execution as the Grinch appears to be the taxi driver that picks him up on his first day out.
The release of Trippie’s video follows 6ix9ine’s high profile sentencing hearing that took place on Wednesday, Dec. 18. 6ix9ine was sentenced to 24 months in prison with 13 months of time served counted towards the bid. He is expected for release in 2020.
Trippie and 6ix9ine were once business partners and friends, collaborating on the 2017 hit single “POLES1469”, garnering mainstream recognition and over 156 million views on YouTube for the music video.
They fell out with each other after Tekashi69 was accused of having sexual relations with a minor. Trippie went on social media to separate himself from the Brooklyn rapper.
The situation only continued to get worse when Trippie was jumped by Nine Trey Bloods in the lobby of a New York hotel. While 6ix9ine wasn’t present for the fight, it didn’t help that he went on social media to address the incident in what appeared to be a taunting of the Ohio rapper.
Some people claimed that Trippie was jealous of 6ix9ine’s quick rise to fame. The beef spilled over to their songs and live performances, and was never resolved before Tekashi’s send off to prison.
Trippie has gone on to release four albums since 2018, selling over 221,000 units, to date.
