There is a Hollywood power duo on the rise… and they’re taking over one gory masterpiece at a time. Ti West returns to premium large format screens with MaXXXine, starring Mia Goth, who has previously worked with the director in a couple of classic horror thrillers.
The pair first made an impression together on X, where Goth plays Maxine, also known as Pearl, a Texas raised young lady with aspirations of being famous who gets her shot when she teams up with a group of filmmakers to produce an adult film at a mysterious rural compound. The open-ended story created the foundation for Pearl, the gruesome follow-up to X that takes viewers back to the origin of Pearl’s story in the early 1900s.
Fast forward to the 1980s, we meet Goth as the adult film star Maxine Minx. Similar to the themes of X and Pearl, Maxine is determined to land her big break as an actress. Those aspirations are quickly muddled by an anonymous night stalker with an appetite for killing Hollywood starlets and a link to Maxine’s mysterious past.

West wrote the script for the film, starring Giancarlo Esposito (Abigail), Michelle Monaghan (Nanny), Kevin Bacon (City on a Hill), Lilly Collins (Emily in Paris), Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown), and Halsey (Americana). West’s universe of films are quickly becoming a franchise for A24, the distribution house that has created a lane of its own in the horror genre.
