Out of all the contenders of rap that trailed behind the eccentric era of the SoundCloud rapper, not many saw Dominique Armani Jones coming. His class included the likes of Roddy Ricch, Gunna, Lil Durk, DaBaby, and so forth. To stand out from the saturated realm of hip hop is not an easy task.
A new documentary from Amazon Studios and Quality Films gives an intimate look at the life of Grammy-winning rapper Lil Baby as he navigates his meteoric rise from the West Atlanta streets to the top of the Billboard charts.
Directed by Karam Gill (Supervillain: The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine), the film explores Lil Baby’s role as a family man and change agent for his community through never-before-seen footage. Peers of the My Turn rapper, such as Drake, Young Thug, and fellow Quality Control Music members, give commentary on his rise and impact.
To date, Lil Baby has dropped two platinum studio albums and six mixtapes, with Gunna collaborative Drip Harder going platinum, and Too Hard and Street Gossip going gold. His work ethic is nearly comparable to the rap counterparts that came before him, such as the notorious Lil Wayne, with over 100 features and guest appearances since 2017.
This, coming from a young man from the hood who never wanted to be a rapper in the first place.
