The Academy Releases 2021 Oscar Nominees List – Chadwick Boseman And Andra Day Up For Lead Role Oscars

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the 93rd Oscars ceremony early on Monday morning. One of the highlights of the announcement was that Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman was posthumously nominated for Actor in a Leading Role — a very rare opportunity for Black talent.

Shining star Andra Day is up for Actress in a Leading Role, accompanied by some great talent, including the lovely Viola Davis, Vanessa Kirby, Frances McDormand, and Carey Mulligan. Similar to the Golden Globes, the Actor in a Supporting Role appears to be very competitive with Daniel Kaluuya, Sacha Baron Cohen, Leslie Odom Jr., Paul Raci, and Lakeith Stanfield battling for the Oscar.

The Oscars was originally scheduled to air on Feb. 28, but had to push back its date in order to accommodate for the pandemic. Now, with states alleviating the stay-at-home and business closure mandates, the Oscars will likely have a show that follows the social distancing and face mask stipulations.

“We find ourselves in uncharted territory this year and will continue to work with our partners at the Academy to ensure next year’s show is a safe and celebratory event that also captures the excitement of the opening of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures,” said Karey Burke, president, ABC Entertainment.

The 93rd Oscars will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network.
