That Time When Wendy Williams Attempted To Shoot Her Shot At Comedian Gary Owen

It was an awkward moment for Gary Owen and viewers when he went on to the Wendy Williams talk show to promote his new film The House Next Door: Meet the Blacks 2. Williams took no time at all to shoot her shot at the comedian, instantly giving the unexpected Owen dry throat.

“Well, I know you know,” Williams said. “The first time we met, Think Like A Man, but I was married, you were married.”

Owen starts grinning extremely hard as he recalls the memory.

Williams continued, “But, you never looked at me that way, but I was looking like, ‘Okay, who is that?’ I’m married at that time. I’m not dead.”

Owen tried to play it cool, but Williams was laying it on so thick that he didn’t know how to sit. He picked up a nearby drink and quickly guzzled the anonymous liquid down. The conversation easily transitioned to Owen’s marriage where he shared that there was something really “big” that changed the “whole dynamic of his divorce.”

Owen is in the middle of a divorce with his companion of 23 years and mother of his “adult” children, Kenya Owen. Divorce seemed to be a commonality between Owen and Williams, who both agreed that they are now “for the streets.”

Still, Williams did not let the topic of Owen’s longterm relationship deflect from her mission. Williams put the man on the spot by asking Owen to dinner. Owen responded, “Whoa, that was fast!”

Williams tried to convince him, “We go to Fresco by Scotto, where I was last night. Let me tell you something, you’re gonna melt at the food.”

“Really?” Owen sarcastically responded.

Owen refused to answer her question on the air. But, clearly he was bothered by Williams’ question. It became even more awkward as he addressed rumors surrounding his divorce, such as being an absent father and infidelities.

By the end of the cringeworthy interview, he was able to do what he came to do — promote his new movie. In The House Next Door: Meet the Blacks 2, where he plays the character Clive, he admits that it was weird being married in the film.
