That Time When Angelenos Called Out LA Police Chief Michel Moore

The Los Angeles Police Commission held a Zoom meeting to discuss the Los Angeles Police Department’s treatment of protestors last Tuesday. The Board of Commissioners, which is responsible for setting the overall policies for the police department, included President Eileen Decker, Vice President Shane Murphy Goldsmith, Commissioner Dale Bonner and Commissioner Steve Soboroff.

During the meeting, the floor was opened to residents and they had no mercy for LAPD Chief Michel Moore who blamed the death of Floyd on the protestors.

“We didn’t have protests last night, we had criminal acts,” Moore said during a news conference. “We didn’t have people mourning the death of this man, George Floyd. We had people capitalizing. His death is on their hands as much as it is those officers.”

Although the chief would quickly apologize, his comments regarding the protests that ignited from the killing of George Floyd caused an uproar from Angelenos.

Call after call, residents expressed their disdain for the chief and demanded that he be fired. As the Board of Police Commissioners and police chief listened to each caller, some of them could be seen showing disapproval through their facial expressions.

Residents were quick to point it out, too, even requesting that Soboroff resign after he kept making facial expressions in response to the callers.
