Remember that scene in Coming To America when Eddie Murphy famously sang the words of legendary crooner Jackie Wilson’s “To Be Loved” in the streets of Queens, New York?
For some reason, a cameo of veteran model Tyson Beckford, 51, in Lizzo’s new music video for “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)” comically sparked emotions of being optimistic about love. To be fair, the title of the song may also be a contributor to the Murphy reference, but there’s nothing like a happy ending for those who seem to always be counted out.
Lizzo co-directs with South Floridian Christian Breslauer, who also directed her video for “About Damn Time.” The video shows Lizzo about to marry herself at the alter when she makes the last-minute decision to ditch “singledom” for a shot at love.
Then, appears thirst trap, Tyson B., riding on a motorcycle in the middle of a desert. Lizzo is appeased for a moment, until her dream beau turns out to be an illusion of her desires. It’s all good because mama cracks open a bottle of Patron and parties in the middle of nowhere with her bridesmaids.
“2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)” is from Lizzo’s album, Special, available on music streaming platforms now. Watch the video below:
