Terrence J posted a video apologizing to Marlon Wayans and the Wayans family for being what some deemed disrespectful. In the video, the former BET 106 & Park host said he loves the Wayans family.
“Marlon is one of my best friends in the world,” he said. “I think the family is incredible. Much love, icons in the game, history-making family…”
The video concluded with Marlon Wayans sitting on a couch holding a rifle as he jokingly pretends to coerce Terrance J to apologize. Wayans captions the video with “A sincere apology from @terrencej.”
Additional videos were posted on Terrence J’s IG page showing the host-turned-actor explaining himself in jest. In one video, Wayans is shown holding a bag of ice to his face. When Terrence J asks Wayans why he had an ice pack, Wayans responded “because you punched me in the face.” Then, he cleared up the joke quickly by explaining that he just had a dentist visit.
Wayans also admitted that he had no idea how much people loved him and the Wayans family. The two friends laughed the situation off together as they read through people’s comments on social media.
Terrence J said he begged Wayans to come to his house and help fix the PR nightmare. “This let’s me know how close I am to getting canceled,” Terrence J said.
The apology comes on the hills of online criticism targeting Terrence J after the two Hollywood movers and shakers had a heated argument on ways people make it in Hollywood. The actual incident occurred in early June, but people are just now getting wind of it as the video goes viral.
Throughout the argument, Terrence J was adamant that Wayans’ career was successful only because of nepotism from his oldest brother Keenan Ivory Wayans, who created the hit 1990s show In Living Color launching the careers of major celebrity talent Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey, Tommie Davis, David Alan Grier and Kim Coles.
Although Wayans was calm throughout the argument, Terrence J, who seemed to be a little drunk, started doing some trolling antics, shouting and barking.
“Listen, let me just school you on something, man, this ain’t all about your family, your family can’t bail you out of this one, all right,” Terrence J shouted. “There’s other people in the world that are not Wayans’ people.”
Wayans responded, “Let me tell you something about family; I don’t ever need them to bail me out of nothing,” Marlon said. “They raised me, if you ever think I’m great because of me, you’re wrong. I’m great because of the tribe that raised me. You’re gonna respect the tribe.”
While most people are now saying the whole episode was a joke, it appears that Terrence J has been truly humbled by the experience.
