Tekashi 6ix9ine Sentenced To 24 Months In Prison, Time Served To Be Counted

UPDATE: Upon the judge‘s return from a 10 minute recess, 6ix9ine learns that he will not be going free.

The judge ordered a 10 minute break after 6ix9ine’s biological father arrived to court late, missing an opportunity to speak on his son’s behalf.

Then, the judge came back with a sentencing that took almost an hour as he explained the reasons for his decision.

Judge Paul A. Engelmayer sentenced 6ix9ine to 24 months in prison after reprimanding him for his involvement in criminal activity.

The sentence will be followed by five years of probation.

With time served, 6ix9ine is only looking at 11 more months in prison, expecting a release in 2020.

Judge Engelmayer says that his conduct was “too violent and criminal” to only serve 13 months.

He went on to refer to attempted shooting of members of rap artist Trippie Redd’s entourage and attempting to place a hit on Chicago rapper Chief Keef as some of the reasons why 6ix9ine deserves more time in prison.

The “FEFE” rapper was facing a minimum of 47 years in prison for nine federal charges, including racketeering, gang activity, narcotics and illegal possession of firearms.

In U.S. District Court today, victim impact letters were read and the rapper had a chance to make his plea to the judge.

The Brooklyn-bred rapper told the judge about how he was changing tides before his incarceration. He spoke of his efforts to inspire kids and even offered to pay for the medical expenses of one of the victims of a gang shooting he was involved in.

6ix9ine, born Daniel Hernandez, requested release from prison with time served and as a condition of him cooperating with police and giving up valuable information on the activities of gang members.
