Selena’s legacy lives on in the new Netflix series Selena: The Series, in which Walking Dead actress Christian Serratos plays the beloved late singer.
Directed by Hiromi Kamata, the show leads viewers on the aspiring journey of Selena Quintanilla’s rise to fame as she traverses through life-changing challenges. The first season contains six one-hour episodes.
Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla, Moises Zamora, Jaime Davila, Rico Martinez and Simran A. Singh are executive producers of the series.
Campanario Entertainment, known for several Latinx productions such as, Mexican Dynasties, Laugh Factory en Espanol and Colossus, spearheaded the project.
“Selena is an inspirational figure who’s transcended generations. At Campanario, we’ve always known it was crucial for this series to find actors with the right mix of talent, charisma, and passion to honor Selena’s legacy and the story of her family,” said Davila, who is also president of Campanario Entertainment.
Other cast members include Madison Taylor Baez (Kids Say The Darndest Things), Noemi Gonzalez (East Los High), Gabriel Chavarria (The Purge), Ricardo Chavira (Desperate Housewives) and Seidy Lopez (Training Day).
Selena was only 23 years old when she lost her life to a gunshot wound on March 31, 1995. The Texas-bred singer is considered the queen of Tejano music and was the subject of the film Selena in which she was depicted by actress and dancer Jennifer Lopez. To date, Selena has sold over 60 million albums worldwide.
Selena: The Series is set to premiere on Netflix in 2020.
