Selena Tribute Artist Karol Posadas Facing Immigration Proceedings After Being Detained By ICE

Its been almost 25 years since the world of Tejano music lost singer Selena to a gunshot wound at the age of 23. Her memory has been kept alive through her family and lifelong fans that continue to tell her story and play her music.

Selena tribute artist Karol Posadas, who is lead singer of the band Anything for Salinas, has dedicated her life to keeping the memory of Selena alive.

While traveling with her band, the Selena impersonator was held at a detention center in Texas by ICE on Nov. 2. Sources are reporting that Posadas was detained by immigration in Harlingen at the Valley International Airport.

The popular cover singer was released from the center on Friday, Nov. 8, according to ICE. However, she still faces “immigration proceedings”.

As a teen, Posadas came to the U.S. with her parents from Guatemala under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program or DACA. The program is supposed to protect children that face immediate danger in their home country, allowing them to enter the U.S. DACA does require a renewal process to stay updated.

Band manager, Roberto Cadilha, said that Posadas had already took the initiative to renew her status, but had not received her legal documents yet.

Posadas hails from San Fernando Valley in Southern California, where she would later form the band with her brother. She travels from state to state performing Selena’s songs and also has original music of her own.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure singing and bringing the experience to fans,” Posadas posted on social media. “I’m extremely grateful every day.”

A GoFundMe account has been started with a goal of $15,000 on Posadas behalf to help with legal fees. So far, the GoFundMe has raised $4,000.
