Pop Latina superstar Selena Gomez released the official video to her single “De Una Vez,” meaning “At Once,” and for the first time in over a decade she is singing an entire song in Spanish. Gomez recorded her first Spanish speaking single with “Un Año Sin Lluvia” in 2010.
The Interscope Records signee was rumored to be making predominately Spanish songs after posting a series of social media hints — turns out that fans were right. In the video directed by creative duo Los Pérez, Gomez is donning a big, pretty crystalized heart pendant that glows in the middle of her chest.
Alone in a domesticated house, each room Gomez inhabits is unique, with one room holding a bunch of plants, while another, a number of lit lamps. Meanwhile, she sings about healing from a past love that hurt her in universal lyrics that come across very much personal.
In English, the lyrics read, “It doesn’t hurt like before, no | The wound of your love healed | Once and for all, ah-ah-ah | I’m stronger alone, ah-ah-ah | I don’t regret the past | I know the time by your side cut my wings | But now this chest is bulletproof.”
To be honest, the single sounds fondly similar to the 2019 Jalvin and Bad Bunny hit Spanish single “LA CANCIÓN” for its rhythmic, Reggaeton sound. Upon checking the credits, it was no surprise that the single was produced by hitmaking Puerto Rican genius Tainy, along with Jota Rosa, Albert Hype, and Neon16. This is all the more reason to adore the single.
