Shannon Sharpe lost his shot with Saweetie on an entertaining live broadcast of his commentary show with Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson titled Nightcap, filmed at the Resorts World Las Vegas ahead of Super Bowl LVIII.
Saweetie, 30, arrived in a decadent, smokey fur in a Las Vegas state of mind to discuss career, relationships, and sports with the Uncs. The interview got off to an awkward start when Sharpe asked Saweetie about her relationship to former beau Quavo of the Migos. Not taking too kindly to being summarized as just a girlfriend, Saweetie responded the “Bay Way,” giving Unc a good and very audible gum-chewing.
As the interview went on, Sharpe, 55, and Johnson, 46, learned about Saweetie’s own quest into the sports world as a track runner and powderpuff football aficionado, while also discovering an interesting fact about the self-proclaimed tomboy.
“I never dated an athlete,” Saweetie said. “Honestly, what’s interesting about musicians and how they say we date kind of like the same people, it’s like high school. You’re going to date who you’re around. I don’t really be around athletes like that, so I never had the opportunity.”

The revelation was the perfect opportunity for Johnson to put his matchmaking cape on.
Johnson cautiously inquired, “I have a friend of mine that would be interested because I found out you were coming, but I wanted to make sure everything was ok before I asked you if it was ok if y’all can meet?”
Live discourse from fans in the chat argued that Johnson sniped Sharpe’s opportunity to shoot his shot. Sharpe took it like a champ and proceeded to do a spontaneous poll on whether Ochocinco should play matchmaker with the Icy Queen. Of course, the poll was affirmed by the audience and Johnson proceeded to drop hints on who the possible suitor might be.
“It’s that boy, too,” Johnson said with confidence. “He’s from Pompano.”
Sharpe backed his co-host, “Oh, yeah, he’s big time, you might want to — you’ll like that!’
Fans figured it out quickly, speculating that Lamar Jackson Jr. of the Baltimore Ravens was the one Johnson was referring to during the segment. Jackson, 27, is from Pompano Beach, Florida and currently plays the quarterback position for the Ravens on a $260 million, five-year contract.
Fresh off a disappointing AFC Championship Game with the victorious Kansas City Chiefs, he recently won his second NFL MVP award at the NFL Honors on Thursday (Feb. 8), making him the youngest player to do so.
Saweetie, born Diamonté Harper, who once wanted to be a hairstylist, graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in communications. Her entire fate changed when she dropped music on SoundCloud, going viral with a freestyle over the production of “My Neck, My Back,” originally by Florida rapper Khia.

Her discography grew with popular club bangers, such as “My Type,” “Tap In,” “Best Friend,” and “Back to the Streets.” Over the years, she’s launched Icy Records and has made big sponsorship moves with McDonald’s, PrettyLittleThing, and Morphe. She’s also in the process of releasing an album five years in the making.
Still, to some, she is known for her high-profile relationship with Quavo and a rumored courtship with California rapper YG. A shift from dating in the hip hop world to dating in the athlete world might not be a far removed idea.
Her bloodline includes Willie Harper, her grandfather, who played in the NFL for over 10 years and won Super Bowl XVI as linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers, the same team that squares off with the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. It could be a nice play for Saweetie and Lamar, two rising stars with unlimited possibilities.
