RZA’s ‘CUT THROAT CITY,’ Starring Shameik Moore, Demetrius Shipp Jr., Wesley Snipes, Debuts At No. 1 On Netflix

Hours after its debut on Netflix, the graphic novel crime thriller CUT THROAT CITY has gained the number one spot on Netflix’S Top 10 Trending Chart. Directed by recording artist and composer RZA, formerly of Wu-Tang Clan, the rapper’s third feature film was released in Summer 2020 and is now making its Netflix premiere as part of a campaign for the #FYC Awards.

Penned by up-and-coming scribe P.G. Cuschieri, CUT THROAT CITY is the story of four childhood friends from New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward who return after Hurricane Katrina to decimated homes, vanished jobs, and no help from FEMA. Out of options, they reluctantly turn to a local gangster, who offers them one shot at turning their situations around—by pulling off a dangerous heist in the heart of the city. When the job goes badly, the friends find themselves on the run, hunted by two relentless detectives and a neighborhood warlord who thinks they stole the heist money.

The film stars a stellar cast that includes Shameik Moore (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), Tip “T.I.” Harris (Ant-Man), Demetrius Shipp Jr. (All American) and Kat Graham (The Vampire Diaries), along with Wesley Snipes (Dolemite Is My Name), Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard (Empire), Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver), four-time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke (Tesla), and Isaiah Washington (P-Valley).

CUT THROAT CITY was produced by RZA, William Clevinger, Elliott Michael Smith and Sean Lydiard of Rumble Riot Pictures, Michael Mendelsohn of Patriot Pictures, and Kyle Tekiela.

The film is streaming on Netflix now.
