Rumor Dispelled: Charges Against Tory Lanez Are Not Dropped

The real story is the best story. But, not all journalists, entertainment commentators and bloggers maintain this oath. As a result, when news is slow, sometimes unethical reporters release false or exaggerated stories to make up for the slack.

The target this time involved the curious case of Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez. An anxious blog set off a rumor early on Thursday that the charges against recording artist Tory Lanez were dropped.

Rumors circulated social media with some Lanez defenders quickly reposting the news and showing their true colors. A few minutes after the news broke, a representative for Lanez confirmed that the rumor was false and the court case was moved back to February.

Joe Coscarelli, music reporter for the reputable New York Times, tweeted more information.

“A rep for Tory Lanez says it is NOT TRUE that charges against him in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting were dropped: The blog that posted this info is wrong. I assume the docket hasn’t been updated…The next hearing date is in mid-February.'”

Spearheaded by the Los Angeles District Attorney, Lanez is being charged with assault with an unregistered firearm used in the July 12, 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Although Megan has publicly claimed he shot her, Lanez pleaded not guilty.

Megan shared a few of her own thoughts on what she called “fake news.”
