Four days until the elections, Rosie Perez is making a call to action to Latino and Hispanic voters to do their homework before casting a vote for Donald Trump. The Birds of Prey actress and activist made an appearance on MSNBC to discuss how the Latino community could impact the elections.
“You know the good news is that over 5 million Latinos have already voted, but we still need more,” Perez said. “There are 32 million Latinos voters eligible to vote this year. We have the power to change the outcome of this election.”
Perez pointed out that a lot of Latino voters have been targeted with misinformation from the Trump administration in order to provoke fear.
She claims that accusations of former vice president Joe Biden being a socialist is one prominent issue that concerns the Latinx community. Healthcare and the economy are the other two factors that deem most important for the Latino family. With the recent collapse of both elements, many people are struggling and are worried about their futures.
“So many people are suffering, so many people are scared,” Perez passionately said. “So many people can’t pay their rent.”
When asked why she thinks that so many people are not learning the facts on how bad the state of the country really is, she blames the crowded messaging and misinformation of social media.
“I think a lot of people rely on social media,” Perez said. “Social media has really done a disservice. They are not sitting down reading the New York Times, reading the Washington Post. They’re not taking the time to do their homework and we need to do that. We’re better than this.”
