The MouthSoap’s favorite potato chip snack, Rap Snacks, will now be widely distributed at Walmart stores.
The chip brand, ran by founder and CEO James Lindsay, will be available at more than 4,200 Walmart stores across the nation. A great feat considering that finding the chips was similar to going on a treasure hunt.
In the past, the “Official Snack of Hip Hop” could only be found at certain gas station stores or small delis. In addition to the expansion, the company will be partnering with Slutty Vegan to create two new brands of vegan chips.
“I am truly excited to partner with Slutty Vegan to bring our first ever Rap Snacks vegan chip option to our customers,” Lindsay said in a press statement. “Slutty Vegan has been immensely influential in introducing veganism to the culturally rich community of Atlanta and beyond. It’s always exciting to join forces with a brand that shares the same underlying mission as we do here at Rap Snacks, to push culture forward through food.”
Established in 1994, the chip brand is known for featuring Hip Hop artists on the front of the bags. Rappers such as the Migos, Cardi B and Romeo have been featured in a cartoonish, artistic fashion on the cover of the bags. Each rapper has their own flavor to go with their personality.
Lindsay started the company with $40,000 invested from family and friends. In 2010, the company took a five year break in production, while Lindsay went on to be Meek Mill’s brand manager.
Production restarted in 2016, with sales exceeding expectations after a few brand design changes and a major proprietary deal with Universal Music Group to use the image and likeness of their artists.
