Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning monarch on Britain’s royal throne when she died after serving 70 years in the role. The Queen peacefully transitioned while at her home, the Balmoral Castle, in Scotland on Thursday, Sept. 8. She was 96 years old.
Months prior to Queen Elizabeth II’s death, she was seen in good spirits celebrating a history-making Platinum Jubilee, becoming the first British monarch to do so. The Queen outlived many, including Princess Diana, the Princess of Wales that was the first wife of Charles, Prince of Wales.
Princess Diana was killed in a tragic car accident induced by a paparazzi chase, dying on August 31, 1997 at the age of 36. On April 9, 2021, Queen Elizabeth’s husband, Prince Philip, Duke Of Edinburgh passed away one year short of making 100 years old. He served as Prince Consort to Queen Elizabeth II since they wed on Nov. 20, 1947.
Queen Elizabeth II is survived by daughter, Princess Anne (Princess Royal), son, Prince Andrew (Duke of York), son, Prince Edward (Earl of Wessex), and son, Prince Charles (Prince of Wales).
