Rapper Pop Smoke was killed Wednesday morning in what appears to be an alleged home invasion, according to police authorities. He was only 20 years old.
Apparently, the “Gatti” rapper was renting a Hollywood Hills home owned by Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Teddi Mellencamp when a reported four masked men broke into the house around 4:30 AM.
Several shots were fired, hitting Pop Smoke, before the hooded intruders took off running. Pop Smoke was rushed to the Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Hollywood where he was later pronounced dead.
Reports are circulating that Pop Smoke had posted some gift bags he received, unintentionally exposing the address of the house he was staying in, according to TMZ.
Hours before the tragic incident, there was a party hosted at the house and Pop Smoke could be seen taking a photo in the driveway.
He was scheduled to perform at multiple venues in the upcoming weeks, including New York’s Sony Hall on Feb. 25th.
Born in Brooklyn, New York as Bashar Barakah Jackson, Pop Smoke was signed to Victor Victor Worldwide and Republic Records.
In April 23, 2019, he released his hit single “Welcome to the Party” from his mixtape Meet the Woo. The single would hit No. 5 on the US Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles on Billboard and No. 48 on the US Rhythmic Billboard chart.
Both Nicki Minaj and Skepta would do remixes of the song. He was also featured on Travis Scott’s compilation project Jackboy where Pop Smoke stood out on “Gatti”.
