One Of Houston’s Biggest Events, RodeoHouston, Back In Business After Year Of Cancellation

The aftermath of Travis Scott’s Astroworld Music Festival and a global pandemic are not stopping Houstonians from celebrating their beloved Houston rodeo. 2022 RodeoHouston is set to take place at the NRG Stadium starting Feb. 28 through March 20.

This is the first time that RodeoHouston will be returning since its cancellation in 2021 and abrupt closure in 2020 due to COVID-19. Just as expected, attendees of this year’s rodeo will not be required to wear masks or show proof of vaccination.

“At this point, we’re not doing tests or proof of vaccines or anything like that. We’re just watching to see where we are, and we’ll see where we are six weeks from now,” said Chris Boleman, President and CEO of Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Celebrating 90 years of its existence, patrons of the rodeo will have access to a livestock show, several cook-off and dance competitions, a carnival, and music performances.

The RodeoHouston lineup of performers will include major country artists Cody Johnson, Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Kane Brown, and George Strait, along with some big pop acts, such as Ricky Martin, Gwen Stefani, Marshmello, and Khalid.

The only hip hop acts booked for the annual event will perform on March 11, Black Heritage Day, as a part of a segment called “H-Town Takeover,” presented by UGK’s Bun B and Kroger. Houston rap legends Lil KeKe, Paul Wall, Z-Ro, Lil Flip, and Slim Thug will perform.

Ticket prices start at $20 for upper-level seats and go up to $350 for Hess Chute seats. A $4 convenience fee will be added per ticket purchase. Attendees can also buy tickets specifically to the carnival with variations of the Half-Price Carnival Pack, starting at $10. The $10 pack includes 22 ride tickets, four refreshment coupons, one free game, and one free ride.

Tickets go on sale Jan. 13 at rodeohouston.com.
