[Updated] Watch as Nipsey Hussle posthumously receives the 2,729th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame:
Los Angeles is paying respects to the legendary music artist Nipsey Hussle, born Ermias Asghedom. The new train station running through Crenshaw Blvd was dedicated to the “Grinding All My Life” rapper at a ceremony on Saturday.
Dubbed the Hyde Park Station, the K Line leads through the intersection of Crenshaw Blvd and Slauson Avenue, where Hussle’s Marathon Clothing Store used to sit in a shopping center. The train line also runs through the neighborhoods of Leimert Park, just southeast of Baldwin Hills, Inglewood, and Manchester Square, to name a few.
In addition to the dedication of the line to Hussle, the Grammy-nominated artist will also be receiving a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Hussle will be the 2,729th inductee to receive a star, and it will be in the category of Recording, scheduled for Aug. 15, the late rapper’s 37th birthday.
The event will be hosted by Lupita Sanchez Cornejo, Chairman of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, with guest speakers including Lauren London, actress and mother of Hussle’s son, and Samantha Smith, Hussle’s sister. Margaret Boutte will be accepting the star on behalf of the family.
The announcement was originally made in 2021 when the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce released a list of the 2022 inductees that included the likes of Ashanti, DJ Khaled, and George Clinton.
The ceremony will be available to watch around the world via live stream on walkoffame.com.
