Nearly 40 years after Nintendo released The Super Mario Bros. in Japan, the classic video game franchise is not only parlaying into Universal Studios’ theme parks, but it’s also receiving an animated treatment that is making its way to movie theaters in 2023. A world premiere of the very first teaser trailer was presented by Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo on the YouTube channel, Nintendo of America.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie follows sibling plumbers, Mario and Luigi, as they take on Bowser and his rising kingdom to rescue the captured Princess Peach. The adapted screenplay was penned by Matthew Fogel. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are the co-directors.
