New web series STEM Queens incorporates beauty and pop culture while focusing on the latest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Founded by nuclear engineer J’Tia Hart, STEM Queens was created to empower more Black women to go into STEM and to highlight female trailblazers leading the way.
“Growing up in Miami and now living in Chicago, I haven’t seen a lot of Black women who look like me who are in STEM,” Hart said. “STEM Queens is a web-based series for young women of color showing successful, interesting, amazing Black women who are killing the STEM game.”
Fionnghuala O’Reilly, also known as Fig O’Reilly, was the first guest on the web series that premiered on March 2nd. O’Reilly has an impeccable resume that consists of her being a NASA Datanaut, the first Black woman to obtain the title of Miss Universe Ireland 2019, and a correspondent on CBS’ Mission Unstoppable with Miranda Cosgrove.
A true Virgo, Hart is as ambitious as they come. She obtained her Ph.D in nuclear engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and was a contestant on CBS’ Survivor: Cagayan. Hart, 39, also found her soulmate, marrying Graeme Ross, whom she has two children, a 4-year-old daughter and 2-year old son. Who said that you can’t have it all?
