New Orleans Bounce DJ Black N Mild Dies From Coronavirus

DJ Black N Mild is one of two people in New Orleans to die from the coronavirus, according to multiple reports. A day after testing positive for COVID-19, he passed away at the age of 44.

Born Oliver Stokes Jr., the bounce DJ had pre-existing medical issues, most likely accelerating the advancement of the virus.

Stokes began feeling symptoms early in the month on March 9. He was sent home with a fever as he waited for test results to get back to him.

The DJ was an ambassador of New Orleans stylistic genre of music known as bounce.

Stokes would lead an extensive radio career, working at New Orleans 104.5 and WBOK. He would go on to work for Houston’s KHOU before founding the New Orleans chapter of Go DJ Global.

Before his passing, Stokes worked in the education field as a coordinator at Arthur Ashe Charter School in Gentilly.

He was also known to DJ at private events and clubs.
