Netflix’s ‘Raising Dion’ Returning For Second Season After Two-Year Hiatus, Action-Packed Trailer Reveals New (And Old) Villains

The world of anime, Comic-Con festivals, Stan Lee comic book fandom, and Marvel Cinema Universe films has inspired an expansion of the colorful genre to include women heroes, POC leads, and in-depth themes that reveal enthralling stories behind the characters.

A second-grader is the superhero of choice for Netflix’s Raising Dion, based on the comic book by Dennis Liu. The series premiered in 2019 to great fanfare as it told the story of Dion, played by actor Ja’Siah Young, who discovers he has superpowers to the surprise of his widowed mother Nicole (Alisha Wainwright).

Already one season in, the pandemic slowed the release of the second season. However, this would be a great time to binge watch the first season as Raising Dion is returning with a big bang, come February 2022.

Netflix released the official trailer for the forthcoming season. In the trailer, Dion, apparently esteemed by his victory over Crooked Man, owns his superpowers while being mentored by superhuman institution Biona trainer Tevin (Rome Flynn). Tevin appears to be a potential love interest for Nicole, or maybe a distraction.

Meanwhile, a new kid in town has been assigned the mission to destroy Dion, causing a lot of ruckus in Atlanta. But, that’s not the only thing Dion has to worry about. The kiddo must figure out how to conquer enemies from the grave, the walking dead, and some familiar adversaries.

The series’ second season is set to premiere on Netflix’s streaming platform Feb. 1.
