Netflix African Original Series ‘Blood & Water’ Picked Up For Season 2

There’s great news for fans of the Netflix drama Blood & Water. The streaming service has announced that it is renewing the African Original Series for a second season.

“We are thrilled at the joy and excitement Blood & Water has brought to our viewers around the world,” Dorothy Ghettuba, Netflix African Original Series executive, said. “We know our viewers were left with questions and those answers await them in the second season of Blood & Water. We’re even more delighted to share our continued commitment to showcase only the best-in-class young adult stories that reflect more young people’s lives on screen, especially now in June as South Africa observes Youth Month.”

Blood & Water follows the journey of 16-year-old Puleng Khumalo, who attends Parkhurst College in South Africa’s Cape Town, as she goes on a mission to find out what happened to her older sister who was abducted as a baby.

The second season will see the return of the cast, including Khosi Ngema, Ama Qamata, Natasha Thahane, Gail Mabalane, Cindy Mahlangu, Thabang Molaba, Arno Greeff and Dillon Windvogel. Nosipho Dumisa will return as showrunner and director of the series.

Netflix has been proactive in incorporating more African based films on its platform. Queen Sono, a James-Bond-esque South African spy thriller, was the first African Original Series for Netflix. The company also announced the production of JIVA!, a drama series about street dancer Ntombi.

In addition to the African Original Series, customers are also seeing an influx of African movies available for viewing on the streaming service.

It’s great that Netflix is ramping up its international appeal and diversity. Hopefully, that will extend to more content from black people in the United States.
