The upcoming Verzuz battle is one that you don’t want to miss. Atlanta-turned-global rappers Gucci Mane and Young Jeezy are going to take their old beef to the platform in what’s supposed to be a “celebration” of music.
Well, things just took a turn. The years long allegations of betrayal and jealousy between the two men have sparked rumors of Jeezy allegedly placing a hit on Gucci for his chain and the men fighting over rights to hit song “Icy.”
Gucci Mane rehashed the smoke when he released a photo on social media on Tuesday (Nov. 17), along with a caption referencing the 2012 song “Truth” where he raps, “Go dig ya partna up nigga I bet he can’t he say shit.”
Fans didn’t know whether to take the post as a joke or an indication of just how serious the Verzuz will be considering that the reference was poking fun at an incident in which friend of Jeezy and rapper Pookie Loc, real name Henry L. Clarke, was killed after attempting to rob Gucci in 2005. Gucci pulled the trigger that wounded the rapper, but he would never be charged for the incident due to him claiming self-defense.
The smoke remained unresolved between Gucci and Jeezy, but it made for great entertainment to music listeners over the years.
After Gucci’s direct post on Instagram, Jeezy decided to respond through a new song he dropped on Tuesday, Nov. 17. On “Therapy For My Soul,” Jeezy basically exposes questionable situations he’s had with associates throughout the years, including Freddie Gibbs, Coach P, Rick Ross and 50 Cent. The former “Snowman” doesn’t appear to mention Gucci — perhaps an indication that he’s on some grown man s–t.
But, he does go in on Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson when he raps, “Grown man playin’ on Instagram, real sucka shit | Why the fuck this clown nigga playin’ with my legacy? | Solid in these streets, that’s some shit that you will never be | Talking ’bout power, but weak niggas do the most | In real life, nigga you really borrow money from Ghost | All that lil’ boy shit, yeah it make it evident | Made millions in these streets, what the fuck is 50 Cent?”
The Verzuz battle goes down on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 5 PM PST / 8 PM EST.
