The channel once known for innovative original content in the music and pop culture space is gracefully dying on a hill. MTV posted their programming schedule for the upcoming week and viewers were bewildered by the dreadful reruns of Rob Drydek’s Ridiculousness.
The funny show that lives in the vein of America’s Funniest Videos plays Monday through Friday, and nearly has the entire weekend on the network. The number of plays for Ridiculousness is a whopping 203. Like, for real.
The only other show competing with the live audience show is Catfish: The TV Show, playing a total of 20 times. There’s an occasional movie and Thursday has a work shift block for Jersey Shore, but for the most part there’s really nothing to look forward to.
Some viewers are saying that the creative blockage is a result of coronavirus. But, can we keep it real? MTV been doing this. Lazy programming, such as playing the same shows on repeat and reviving old shows from the 1990s and early 2000s has been an ongoing issue at the network.
Many fans of MTV are questioning why they won’t go into their treasure chest of programming and bring back reruns of popular shows such as TRL Live, The Real World and Diary, to name a few. It may take some licensing negotiation with the creators of the shows. However, at least by doing so it would expose a whole new generation of viewers to the old genius of MTV.
Not to bag on Ridiculousness. We have MouthSoap associates that love to watch the show headlined by Rob, Steelo and Chanel 24/7, but moderation never hurt.
