Adult men of male group Jagged Edge allegedly dated members of Destiny’s Child while they were minors.
Mathew Knowles is on a press tour to promote his book Destiny’s Child: The Untold Story, released on Dec. 1st. During an interview with DJ Vlad’s Vlad TV, Knowles claimed that Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Kelly Rowland were being sexually harassed by members of Jagged Edge while on tour in the early 2000s.
For years, fans of Destiny’s Child heard rumors that the break up of the group allegedly had something to do with LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson being romantically involved with members of the singing male quartet Jagged Edge and twin brothers Brian and Brandon Casey.
While Destiny’s Child and Jagged Edge were on tour together, an incident exposed the secret relationships going on between the two groups. According to LaTavia and the twin borthers, one day on tour, LeToya’s mother, Pam, wanted to ride on the tour bus, but management allegedly was against it.
The twin brothers argued with management about LeToya’s mother being denied from the bus, which ultimately resulted in Jagged Edge being kicked off the bus. The incident sparked conversation between LeToya and LaTavia to obtain their own management.
Knowles, 67, admitted that management made a mistake placing Destiny’s Child, who were minors at the time, on the same tour bus with Jagged Edge, who were in their 20s. At one point, Knowles received an alarming call from Beyoncé and Kelly.
“I got a call from Kelly and Beyoncé, and I talk about this in the book in detail, saying that they were constantly being harassed by two other members of Jagged Edge and I couldn’t have that,” Knowles told Vlad TV. “I literally had to put the guys off the bus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. That began all of this drama and yes, I got an attorney that called me out of the blue to tell me that I would be getting a certified letter. He had just faxed me the letter to tell me that at this point he was now on an interim basis managing LaTavia and LeToya. They would finally go and search for a final manager, but for now he was the interim manager.”
“They’re 16-years-old,” Knowles continued. “The guys are 21 and 22 years old. I have a fiduciary duty with minors, by the law, there’s a certain way I have to manage that.”
Knowles revealed that he told the interim manager that Kelly and Beyoncé sung about 95% of the songs, while the other two members only sung 5% indicating why it didn’t make sense for the two members to have separate managers. Chairman of Sony Music Donny Ienner allegedly said he did not care about any of the other members in Destiny’s Child, except for Beyoncé and Kelly.
The group quickly replaced LaTavia and LeToya with Farrah Franklin and Michelle Williams. Knowles attributed the decisions to obtain new members to himself and the record label, not Beyoncé and Kelly.
LaTavia continued a relationship with Brandon for another eight years. But, it costed her losing her spot in the group and fading away in the entertainment industry.
One interesting fact that Knowles revealed was that Destiny’s Child opened for 1990s R&B fave Jon B., who was hot off of the success of hit song “They Don’t Know”. Soon, the talented quartet surpassed Jon B. to become one of the top girl groups of all time.
