Martin Lawrence is going in a different direction, and it’s something serious. The legendary comedian and actor plays detective Jake Doyle in the new Lionsgate crime thriller Mindcage.
Mauro Borrelli directs the script written by Reggie Keyohara III. The story follows Doyle (Lawrence) as he embarks on a dangerous journey involving a religious relic discovered in a church. An artist turned serial killer (John Malkovich) with a habit of turning his deceased victims into life-like statues is now being imitated by a copycat. Accompanied by fellow detective Mary Kelly, played by actress Melissa Roxburgh, Doyle seeks to unravel the mystery behind the sudden spree of murders.
The film for Lawrence comes on the heels of his successful return to the Bad Boys franchise when he appeared in Bad Boys for Life in 2020, nearly two decades after Bad Boys II. The doting father is slowly but surely ramping up his schedule with another Bad Boys in the works and a TV series on the horizon.
