Actor and Grammy-winning artist Louie Rankin, also known as the “Original Don Dada”, has reportedly passed away in a car crash. He was 66.
Police reported that on Monday morning the dancehall artist was driving on Highway 89 near Shelburne, Ont. when his vehicle collided with a transport truck. Rankin died on impact. No other injuries were reported.
A tweet was released on Rankin’s Twitter account. “It saddens us to have to announce that The “ORIGINAL DON DADA” “Trail Blazer” the legend – Louie Ox Rankin passed away this morning!”
Born Leonard Ford, Rankin was first made famous for his Jamaican dancehall music with his single “Typewriter”. He would then appear in classic urban films Belly and Shottas portraying a very well-done Jamaican kingpin.
Nas had words for the Jamaican legend on social media. “Louie Rankin. Great working with this man. A legend. In Belly you stole the show.”
