Lola Brooke Is “So Disrespectful” In New Music Video For Latest Single

Lola Brooke is “So Disrespectful,” according to the Brooklyn rapper’s new music visual for the single boasting the eye-catching title.

Some would say the 718 Princess came out of nowhere at a time when the hip hop scene has made clear boundaries on the hierarchy of female rappers, ranging from reigning rap queens, such as Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, to rising hip hop divas, such as Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat.  However, the streets are promoting a new wave of homegrown rappers with regional impact and worldwide appeal — ever heard of GloRilla and Ice Spice?

Among those mesmerizing starlets is the one and only Lola Brooke, who four years into the game went TikTok viral with the current rap era’s hip hop zeitgeist, “Don’t Play With It,” featuring Billy B.  The song was a slow-burner, released in 2021 but only gaining massive traction a year and some change after its debut.  Today, the music video has over 25 million views on YouTube and a cluster-chain of memes and reenactments across social media.

She would capitalize on the popularity with the release of another hit in the grimy “Dummy Ummy,” followed by the boisterous single “Here I Come,” a slight nod to Louisiana rapper Mystikal’s 1995 hit song, “Here I Go.” Most recently, Lola Brooke teamed up with another rapper to watch, Flo Milli, on the bass-blasting single “Conceited.”

Lola Brooke comes with the complete aesthetic that one would imagine for a female rap star, but her most appealing feature comes in her actual talent.  Her hardcore approach to rap that effortlessly rolls off her tongue is reminiscent of the style made popular in the 1990s by the likes of Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, and many more women of that era.

Although petite, the freestyler finesser packs a powerful bar for bar delivery that is sure to galvanize the masses longing for diversity in the genre. It’s a contribution to hip hop that has for too long been lost in the sauce.
