After more than two years of silence, Little Marvin, the creative mind behind the 2021 television series Them, caused a seismic sized shift when the official trailer for the second season of the anthology series dropped on Friday (March 29). Them: The Scare continues the anthology horror series with actress Deborah Ayorinde, who played Lucky in the first season, as LAPD Homicide Detective Dawn Reeve.
Set in 1991, Detective Dawn Reeve is assigned to a new case involving the unusually gruesome murder of a foster home mother. With a possible serial killer on her hands, Detective Reeve is determined to solve the case in the midst of utter chaos in the city of Los Angeles. As she draws closer to the truth, an evil entity of unconceivable force slowly infiltrates her professional and personal life.
Season 2 of the series recruits new talent to the Them universe, starring Luke James (The Chi), Pam Grier (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines), Wayne Knight (Bookie), Iman Shumpert (The Chi), Charles Brice (City on a Hill), Derrick LeMont (Black Lightning), Darin Cooper (Snowfall), and Joshua J. Williams (Flatbush Misdemeanors).
Distributed by Prime Video, executive producers of the series’ second season include Little Marvin, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, and Steve Prinz, with Brian Wankum as producer and Jonathan Jennings as associate producer.
Them first debuted with the release of 10 episodes on April 9, 2021. The series followed Lucky (Ayorinde), a married mother on the verge of mental collapse as her family navigates moving into the freshly desegregated community of Compton, California filled with nice nasty neighbors, such as the very much disturbed Betty Wendell, in 1950s America. Lena Waithe (Twenties, The Chi) executive produced the series created by Little Marvin.

Riddled with nefarious revelations at every turn, the series was a hit for horror fans, but abruptly took a two year hiatus. At one point, it appeared that the series would dive into what had become known as Them: The Convenant, based on one man’s deal with the devil made during the 1800s. However, Season 2 indicates a pivot from the Civil War era to the tumultuous year of 1991 when Angelenos voiced their disdain of police brutality, particularly in the filmed case of Rodney King, through a host of riots.
Them: The Scare premieres April 25 on Prime Video. Watch the official trailer below:
