Lil Rel Defends His Looks And Millennial And Gen Z Comics: “I’m Sick Of This”

The rainbow-colored rabbit hole of mudslinging comedians continues on Club Shay Shay, the biggest podcast on this side of the pond right now. Vacation Friends actor Lil Rel Howery met up with Shannon Sharpe for yet another hilarious, eyebrow-raising interview to add to the smoking hot platform.

An unfiltered Lil Rel let his position be known on the matter of comics gone wild 2024. A student of the comedy game, Lil Rel breaks down the great divide by simply pointing out that comedians who critique don’t know the personal work others are putting in to achieve their accolades.

He addressed the misconception of millennial and Gen Z comedians by their older counterparts.

“[Younger comedians] work really hard,” said Lil Rel in the interview. “I’ve seen Jerrod [Carmichael] every single night take that script home…stayed up until about five or six in the morning, had to meet us all on set at 7:30 to rehearse it. That’s work ethic! You know why people have success like that? Because they put the work in.”

Lil Rel also calls out the older generation, telling them to “stop this” train of complaining about small things without being specific about the issue. He further defended himself against a viral comment Katt Williams made on his appearance.

“I don’t even know what that meant when he said, ‘They’re going to make you a star, Lil Rel, but you’re ugly,” Lil Rel continued. “I ain’t trying to start no s***, I just don’t understand. Look, I don’t think I’m the finest man in the world, but a short n**** with a perm?”

Dressed in hilarity, Lil Rel returned the sentiment, calling Williams’ look “weird.” Still, beyond the jokes, Lil Rel believes all comics should come together to make the best of the opportunities available to them and even create new opportunities for the up-and-coming.

“I’m sick of this s***, it’s a bunch of old beefs,” Lil Rel resolved. “I don’t think we should bring in our behind the scenes comedy mess… Call these people.”

He even took the time to make amends with elder statesman Williams, “Katt, look, I’m just talking s***. I ain’t mad at you. I can give a rat’s a**. I respect the f*** out of you. You’re the greatest to ever do it.”
