Lil Baby is making an effort to change the narrative around his name. In a warm gesture for the holidays, the Atlanta hip hop artist is on a giveaway tour to help families in need of coats across the nation.
He recently gifted 1,000 coats to lucky Birmingham, Alabama residents during his Warm Winter Wishes giveaway on Monday. The Lil Baby and 4PF collaborative event took place at the One Pratt Park from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., according to the event’s website.
Recipients of the coats had to pre-register through the website and follow social distancing rules to ensure that the event was in compliance with CDC guidelines. Birmingham City Council District 9 was also a sponsor of the giveaway. Lil Baby also held a similar event in his hometown of Atlanta where he partnered with the Atlanta City Council and transit system MARTA to donate 2,000 coats.
The “My Turn” rapper’s latest charitable deeds comes as he celebrates the success of his single “The Bigger Picture,” which won the BET Hip Hop Award for Impact Track and received two 2021 GRAMMY nominations for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song.
“I got 1.5 million dollars to donate off of ‘Bigger Picture.’ I want the money to go (where) it’s needed,” Lil Baby tweeted. “I don’t want to donate to just any organization, but I will be letting my fans kno exactly (where) the money goes. Lawyers, bonds, playgrounds, jobs, youth activities, things that WE can really benefit off of.”
Since the start of his career, he has produced three Top 10 hits on the Billboard chart, with a total of five songs landing on the Top 100 Billboard chart. Lil Baby made headlines on Friday when his music peer Meek Mill tweeted that he was looking forward to partnering with Lil Baby, Lil Durk and 21 Savage to kickstart their own digital streaming platform.
Meek tweeted, “Me lil baby Durkio tryna get somebody in Silicon Valley to build us our own music platform we can be majority owner in! We will pay!! We need top Silicon Valley steppers please!”
According to Meek, the streaming platform would not be similar to platforms already in operation, although the endeavor sounds similar to Apple and Tidal where artists such as Drake and Kanye West have earmarked their presence with sponsorship and equity deals.
