The pandemic has changed people. Experiencing financial challenges, death, and uncertainty about the future of society is enough to cause anxiety and long-term behavioral changes. Compacting all of this chaos together results in people not being able to properly cope with adversity and life challenges.
Nowadays, despite the critics of religion denouncing the church as a for-profit scam, the reality is that for many people church is a safe haven and place of peace. It’s even better when the delivered sermons are messages that are relevant to the issues that people face today. More and more, Lakewood Church’s pastor Joel Osteen has proven that he is very much aware about the state of society.
In his latest message, he talks about “Dealing with Difficult People,” a subject he knows well. The Houston native addresses everything from rude people, unfair bosses, and bitter relatives. He advises that even when treated poorly, people should make an effort to not succumb to the mistreatment and retaliate.
He preaches, “That feels good to our flesh, to let them have it, but you’ll never come out ahead by doing to others what they did to you. The real way you see favor, increase, is bless your enemies. When you’re good to those that are not good to you, not only will you rise higher, but God will deal with those who are not treating you right.”

He likens the believer, or in the world, good-doer, to an eagle. In a fascinating story, Osteen talks about how a crow can attempt to annoy the eagle. Instead of striving with the crow, the eagle simply flies higher, leaving the crow behind. The crow is not able to fly to the heights of an eagle. It’s good advice for those who find themselves on a low vibration, fighting petty fights that distract you from your goals.
“You have to make sure that battle is between you and your destiny, if not it’s a distraction,” said Osteen.
Although Osteen has always provided messages like this, it is especially necessary during these times. From road rage to relationship problems, people need help. People need guidance. People need love. That has become more apparent with the significant rise of views (currently 824k) on this particular video on YouTube.
