There’s plenty of good things to say about the sports world. In fact, Sunday football saw the L.A. Chargers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers (41-37), the Philadelphia Eagles triumph over the New Orleans Saints (40-29), and the Dallas Cowboys get blown out by the Kansas City Chiefs (9-19), just to name a few.
The headlining story for the NBA was not as wholesome. In fact, out of all sport figures, Los Angeles Lakers player LeBron James was involved in a bloody altercation that left Detroit Pistons’ player Isaiah Stewart with a nasty cut above his right eye.
It all started in the third quarter when Stewart leaned into James with his arm raised. James responded by swinging his left arm around and doing a backhand hit to Stewart’s face, causing him to swerve and fall to the ground. By the time Stewart jumped to his feet and began to charge at James, who appeared to be making an appeal to Stewart, several players and security intervened.
It was a ruckus on the court that escalated even more when Stewart realized the cut was bleeding profusely. James’ teammates came to the rescue with Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook (prepared in his fighting stance), and even a cozy Carmelo Anthony standing in front of James as he was escorted away from center court.
Meanwhile, Stewart still wanted a piece of the Laker and even proceeded to run through the arena tunnels to get to James. Ultimately, on a flagrant 2 foul, James was ejected from the remainder of the game that took place in Detroit. This was James second ejection in his career. The Lakers lost to the Pistons with a final score of 78 to 66.
To add fire to the flame, the incident has sparked murmurs of possible game suspensions handed out to James for the obvious, while Stewart faces the same fate for not leaving the court in a timely matter.
Who needs the American Music Awards and the Real Housewives of Potomac when all the action is taking place among these athletes?
