Fans of Hip Hop and the holidays will be delighted to learn that The Hip Hop Nutcracker will start its traveling tour this November.
Directed and choreographed by Jennifer Weber, all-star performers will dance to the music of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Legendary MC Kurtis Blow will also be part of the cast and open the show, set with an electric violinist and DJ.
The rapper recently sat down with ABC Radio to talk about how he was able to prolong his career and change his life.
“I became successful and popular…I finally got to a point where I said ‘Wow is this it? Is this all that life has to offer?'” he told ABC Radio. “Is it money, love, drugs, sex? The more I got, the more I wanted…I sat down and said is this all that life has to offer…I got my life together…started the Hip Hop church.” Eventually, this led Kurtis Blow to The Hip Hop Nutcracker.
The reimagining of the classic Nutcracker, which was originally written by Prussian author E. T. A. Hoffman, is a contemporary dance adventure that celebrates the magic and mystique of the holidays.
Taking place in modern-day New York, follows Maria-Clara and the Nutcracker Prince on a journey that includes battling mice and going to a land of sweets.
The cast includes, Ann-Sylvia Clark, Josue “Beastmode” Figueroa, Nubian Nene, Micah “Just Jamz” Abbrey and Lisa “LBOOGIE” Bauford. The production is produced by the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and booked by InHouse Booking.
The tour will kick off on Nov. 7th at the San Diego Civic Theatre in San Diego, CA. Some cities booked for the tour includes, Seattle, Oakland, Salt Lake City, Denver, Atlanta, San Antonio, Jacksonville, Brooklyn, Newark and and NYC, to name a few.
