Justin Blackburn was ahead of the curve as it pertains to the awakening of white people in America when he released his controversial poem “White People US” in 2018. “White People US” is a part of the Unlearning White America Vol, 1 collection.
In the poem, the spoken word poet and comedian highlights some of the historic injustices and taboo realities of racism in America. He dives into cultural appropriation, relentless capitalism, horrific abuses of slavery, jim crow laws and manipulation of religion to control the masses. That pretty much covers it. Well, almost.

Blackburn said in a caption to the three minute video that white people are responsible for making the changes necessary to end systemic racism.
“A Slam Poem I wrote to educate White People especially the ones I grew up with, especially the complacent ones who think racism isn’t real or does not understand the poisonous effect it has on society,” Blackburn said. “We created it. It is on us to change it.”

His message to his fellow white peers was straight to the point.
“To my white brothers, I love you. Every race here, I love you. But it comes to a point now, where if you love me and you not standing on the side of me, then your love don’t mean shit.”
Point taken.
