John Wick: Chapter 4 is a great example of what persistence and patience can do. The Keanu Reeves franchise earned its best opening weekend box office yet at $73.8M with the fourth installment.
In 2014, the first John Wick, a story about a former hit-man seeking revenge for the death of his dog, premiered in theaters to a rough $14.4M domestic opening. By the time all grosses were collected, John Wick had made $86.1M worldwide.
Lionsgate took only three years to drop the sequel, John Wick: Chapter 2, and the opening weekend box office in the U.S. doubled compared to the original film, at $30.4M. The film, starring Common, Ruby Rose, the late Lance Reddick, John Leguizamo, and a Matrix reunion with Laurence Fishburne, went on to garner a whopping $174.3M worldwide.
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum inched it’s way to a $56.8M opening, that’s 86.8% more than the sequel’s opening. The third installment brought back Ian McShane, Fishburne, and Reddick, while adding on Halle Berry and Asia Kate Dillon. The worldwide cume for Chapter 3 landed at a best of $328.3M for the Chad Stahelski-directed feature.
With Chapter 4 already amassing a worldwide cume over $100M, it’s a no-brainer that the fourth installment will surpass its predecessors. As far as the ratings, critics and audiences alike are raving about John. RT scores are currently at 94%, as the film receives a certified fresh stamp of approval.
