Update: Biden draws 290 electoral votes as Nevada reports its ballot count.
Former VP Joe Biden has become the 46th president of the United States after a drawn out ballot counting process that took nearly four days. The news broke on Saturday morning to a divided nation struggling with a virus pandemic and low morale.
Biden, 77, was able to take the reins from Donald Trump when he reached the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency through a win from Pennsylvania, landing him at 284 electoral votes.
Other essential wins included that states Wisconsin, Arizona and Michigan. Mail-in ballots slowed the election process and are still being counted in North Carolina, Georgia and Alaska.
At the moment, Biden holds 50.61% of the national popular vote, totaling 74,857,880 vote counts. Trump gained 70,598,535 votes securing 47.7% of the national popular vote.
