Jhené Aiko will be multi-tasking at this year’s 63rd annual Grammy Awards. Not only will she have the anticipation of being a nominee for album of the year, but she will also be hosting the Grammy Awards’ pre-event Premiere Ceremony.
The role makes her the first music artist to host the Premiere Ceremony and be nominated for the big award of the night. Aiko’s album, Chilombo, released on March 6, 2020, garnered Aiko three Grammy nominations that include best R&B performance for “Lightning & Thunder, album of the year, and best progressive R&B album.
The order of events as described by Billboard will include an opening performance of Marvin Gaye’s “Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)” in celebration of the song’s 50th anniversary. Following the performance, rising rap star Chika, along with legends Jimmy Jam and Bill Burr, will announce the first award of the night.
Performers of the pre-event include Grammy nominees Rufus Wainwright, Poppy, Lido Pimienta, Igor Levit, Burna Boy, Jimmy “Duck” Holmes, and Terri Lyne Carrington + Social Science.
The Premiere Ceremony will livestream on Grammy.com, while the 63rd annual Grammy Awards show will air live on CBS and Paramount+.
